SPILL – DANIEL BELTRÁ PHOTOGRAPHY
Presented by Millennium ART, SPILL is a captivating art exhibition featuring the photographic works of internationally renowned conservation photographer Daniel Beltrá. The show takes people on a visual exploration of the Gulf Oil Spill, revealing the impact it has on the marine environment. The exhibition brings into focus how global lessons can inspire local action to protect and sustain our ocean heritage. SPILL: Crude Response premiered at the 212 Gallery in
Aspen during the 2010 Environment Forum held in July at the Aspen Institute, and will
continue to travel nationally and internationally in 2011 – 2012. |

Using the transformative power of fine art,
the goal of the SPILL exhibit is to engage and encourage audiences to find new perspectives that help them understand
how our daily activities are indelibly tied to the environment. Together we can stimulate people to rethink
their consumption patterns and prompt them to seek sustainable solutions.

EXHIBITION HISTORY
Daniel Beltrá saw the Gulf Spill disaster as an opportunity to uncover beauty in tragedy. On assignment for Greenpeace, Beltrá worked on-site off the coast of Louisiana for several weeks. The result is a series of photographs taken from three
thousand feet above the water, capturing a powerful perspective through large-scale
works of art. Beltrá's eye for composition is sharp, and the colors and textures that
emerge from the combination of oil, water, light and the chemicals used to combat the
flow of oil are also enormously appealing. However, Beltrá's interest is in getting
people to think more deeply about what has caused these iridescent colors, why these
boats are sailing through thickly textured waters. Since SPILL launched in Aspen, the
exhibition has experienced widespread media attention via television, web, and print.
